Ak Gıda became one of the supporters of Metro Turkey’s 10x20x30 Fight against Food Loss and Waste initiative, which was launched in Turkey by involving its stakeholders to combat food waste.
Ak Gıda, the largest enterprise in the milk and dairy products sector with a daily milk processing capacity of 5 thousand tons, joined the 10x20x30 Initiative to Combat Food Loss and Waste launched by its business partner Metro Turkey in Turkey. As part of this initiative led by the World Resources Institute, the world’s 10 largest food retailers aim to reduce food waste by 50 percent by 2030 by adopting a “Target-Measure-Act” approach with 20 suppliers.
Reminding that water scarcity and drought have increased in the world due to climate change, which has led to a decrease in agricultural productivity, Ali Sözen, CEO of Ak Gıda, pointed out that the future of the food sector is at risk in terms of feeding the world population. Sözen said, “For a sustainable future, we must all take responsibility as both producers and consumers to reduce food waste and losses. With this awareness, as Ak Gıda, we support the ‘Responsible Production and Consumption’ target, one of the 17 development goals of the United Nations. In our biogas plant, we convert food waste into energy at a rate of 91.8%. In addition, within the scope of our zero waste management, we separate all wastes, including food, at the source and recycle them in all our factory offices. I believe that our efforts to reduce food waste and losses will gain significant momentum with the 10x20x30 initiative, which we are involved in as part of our sustainability approach.”
